Just like with wedding photography, the Aimee Custis Photography approach to headshots is fresh, supportive, and never stuffy. Making sure you look and feel relaxed and confident on camera? Don't stress—I see that as 100% my responsibillity, not yours.
Professional headshots should be nothing like school picture day. If you have a career in the Washington DC metro area, at some point you need a headshot: for your office, personal brand, book jacket, campaign, dating profile, or social media. Raise your right hand and repeat after me: "This is the year I stop using a wedding photo from 7 years ago as my LinkedIn headshot."
HEADSHOTS DONE DIFFERENTLY
No harsh lights or boring backdrops
Unless specifically requested, I avoid having a big setup for you to sit down at when it’s your turn for photos. Instead, the two of us will go for a short walk chatting as we look for the perfect place just for your picture!
Individualized attention
Even in matched sets for groups, I set up every person’s photo individually to make sure you look your best. When we find the right location, I’ll instruct you in how to stand and what to do to look your best for the camera.
Tell a story with your environment
Tell the world about what you do and build credibility by showing more than just your face. I’ve photographed judges in their chambers, transportation planners at bus stations, and politicians at in their home jurisdictions—and would love to tailor your backdrop to your needs.

How it works
01. Consultation
First, I will set up a call to gather details—how you're planning to use your photos, your professional goals, and the story these headshots should tell. I'll make recommendations on your location, wardrobe, and more.
02. Session
At your session, we'll start by recapping your goals and story, then select together your first outfit, before getting started in front of my lens. My feedback and direction ensure you always know where to look and what to do with your hands.
03. Proofs
I'll send you a private gallery to review all of your lightly-edited images—they're yours to keep. But that's not all: sit with them, then when you're ready, select your favorites for full retouching.
04. Retouchiing
Imperfections should never get in the way of your professional image. That's why I'll fully retouch—down to the pixel level—skin imperfections, flyaway hair, background distractions, and more on the images you choose, ensuring your new professional presence is flawless.
